Basketball skills can be divided into fundamental skills (the must-have basics) and advanced skills (the ones that make you stand out).
Here’s a structured breakdown:
1- Ball Handling
Dribbling:
Control the ball with both hands, using finger pads, keeping your head up.
Crossover:
Switching the ball from one hand to another to change direction quickly.
Behind-the-back dribble:
Good for protecting the ball from defenders.
Spin move:
Using body rotation to get around defenders.
In-and-out dribble:
Faking a crossover to keep the defender off balance.
2- Passing
Chest pass:
Quick and direct.
Bounce pass:
Useful for avoiding defenders’ hands.
Overhead pass:
For long distances.
No-look pass:
To surprise defenders (advanced).
One-hand push pass:
Quick passes off the dribble.
3- Shooting
Set shot:
Feet planted, usually for free throws.
